Dreaming of Spring!

Yes, the seed catalogs are pouring in, and you're dreaming of warmer days and getting those hands dirty! This is a fine time to plan your garden and to purchase seeds and seed starting supplies. I know you're itching to start your seedlings, but let me caution you just a little. It is still very early for almost everything. Unless you have ideal conditions for heat, light, and space, it's easy to produce a plant that will be struggling for light and thus become leggy and weak. Remember that you can't put warm weather loving plants such as tomatoes and peppers out until late May. I suggest starting them mid March, so you'll have stocky, healthy plant.s. Late February is a good time to start cold weather loving plants such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, as well as lettuces and onions. These crops, once hardened off, will go out in the garden early to mid April. So my advice for now is to have patience. It will pay off later.
